A brief summary of previous efforts to manage diabetic cats with oral medications will be followed by an overview of the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors and their effects in this species. Velagliflozin oral solution will be introduced and insights shared regarding appropriate patient selection, monitoring, and troubleshooting. Information on when to consider a switch to insulin and how to make this change will be provided.
