Sorting Facts from Fables in Pet Nutrition

This lecture addresses prevalent nutrition myths affecting veterinary practice and clinical dietary recommendations. Veterinarians will learn evidence-based clarifications to common misconceptions about pet food ingredients, formulation principles, and nutritional adequacy. Topics include digestibility myths, protein requirements, ingredient quality (by-products, grains, legumes, oils), human-grade standards, supplement necessity, raw feeding claims, weight management strategies, and a clearer understanding of the different nutrition credentials.
Speaker: Lauren Tseng, DVM
Bio: Dr. Lauren Tseng, DVM is a residency trained veterinary nutritionist and the Director of Veterinary Outreach at JustFoodForDogs, where she leads veterinary education initiatives, scientific communications development, and outreach content. After graduating with a DVM from Western University of Health Sciences in 2021 and completing a small animal rotating internship at Ironhorse Vetcare in 2022, Dr. Tseng completed her clinical nutrition residency at the University of California, Davis and the University of Georgia in 2025. Her research and professional interests include evaluation of pet supplements, disease management through dietary interventions, and translating complex nutritional science into actionable clinical guidance. Dr. Tseng has authored chapters in veterinary reference handbooks, and has been recognized with academic awards for her contributions to the field.
