Animals share the environments in which fungal pathogens live, circulate, and expand. When an animal develops a fungal infection, that case can provide valuable evidence of environmental exposure, changing geographic risk, or a potential threat to human health.

In recognition of Fungal Disease Awareness Week, MiDOG is hosting this One Health webinar with experts from the CDC’s Mycotic Diseases Branch, the University of California, Davis, and MiDOG Animal Diagnostics. Through focused discussions of blastomycosis, coccidioidomycosi, also known as Valley fever, and sporotrichosis, the speakers will examine how animal cases can serve as sentinels for fungal disease activity.

Attendees will learn how veterinary observations, diagnostic findings, environmental data, and public health surveillance can work together to strengthen early detection and fungal disease preparedness. The session will also explore the distinction between shared environmental exposure and zoonotic transmission, highlighting opportunities for greater collaboration among veterinary professionals, physicians, laboratorians, researchers, and public health agencies.

The webinar will conclude with a live question-and-answer session.
