Speaker: William Oldenhoff, DVM, DACVD
This lecture will cover the process of diagnosis of allergic dogs and cats, and will broadly discuss treatments available. Special emphasis will be on some of the common mistakes that I see in referrals to me, and how they can be corrected.
Bio: Dr. William Oldenhoff was born and raised in rural Wisconsin. He attended the University of Wisconsin for undergraduate studies and veterinary school. Following veterinary school, he worked in small animal general practice before returning to the University of Wisconsin for a dermatology internship and residency. He has practiced dermatology in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Madison, Wisconsin. Having never lived on the west coast, he decided a change was in order and has relocated to southern California to be with family. He practices at the Animal Dermatology Center in Studio City.
In his free time, Dr. Oldenhoff enjoys bicycling, traveling, cooking and spending time with family. He is particularly passionate about sourdough bread making and home fermentation. Like any good Wisconsinite, he always has a wide selection of cheeses at home.

Collaborative Pet Care Works for Everyone!
As how we practice veterinary medicine continues to evolve, exploration of the relationship between specialists and general practitioners is integral. Each segment works closely together, yet there can be antagonism at times. The goal of this discussion is to bring a better understanding of the referral and consultation relationship in small animal case management and discover key points for each stakeholder to consider to empower and elevate the level of care each pet receives. Using evidence-based medicine and data collected across various specialties an illustration is provided that supports this position. In particular, the use of telemedicine and remote ultrasound consultations can be a significant value-add to a general practitioner’s ability to manage a case under various conditions.
Learning objectives:
- Discuss the differences between referral and consultation
- Visit data points in the veterinary collaborative care effort
- Ultrasound consultation can be a win-win-win!
- Top 5 tips to provide excellent collaborative care
- Top 5 situations where ultrasound consultation can be very effective
Speaker: Dr. Jessica L. Larson, B.S., DVM, DACVIM (SAIM)
Bio: After graduating from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine with honors, Dr. Jessica Larson completed a rotating small animal internship at Michigan Veterinary Specialists in Southfield, Michigan (now Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners), and then a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing residency and becoming Board Certified through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Dr. Larson worked in private clinical practice for many years, including home hospice and euthanasia. Private practice led to an industry position as part of the education team for an innovative pet therapeutics company, and, most recently, a national mobile specialty company serving the metropolitan Nashville area. Currently, Dr. Larson is a new business owner providing various internal medicine service options in the region, including specialty relief, endoscopy appointments, consulting and education through several online platforms, with instructor-led learning opportunities.
