Objective: Understand how deciduous canines develop, what problems can develop if they erupt abnormally or do not fall out when they should, and how to navigate these situations including a review of extraction techniques.

Speaker: Briana T. Mirchel, DVM, CCRP, CHPV, AVDC Resident In Training

Bio: Originally from NY, Dr. Mirchel received her BS in Biology and Anthropology at SUNY Stony Brook. After graduating from Western University of Health Sciences
in Pomona, CA, Dr. Mirchel returned to the East Coast to do a 1 year rotating internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Tinton Falls, NJ. Dr. Mirchel spent
the next several years working in a fusion of shelter medicine and general practice before being drawn back to the sunshine via her alma mater (and her best friend from vet school) to help open the Western U Spay/Neuter Center in Van Nuys, CA. Missing the ocean, Dr. Mirchel had the opportunity to move to San Diego where she now resides with her 15 y/o pity Kangaroo and 2 cats, Sesame and Penguin. Coming from a family of human dentists (her Opa, Frank Mirchel; her uncle, Frank “Kelly” Mirchel; her cousin Ryan Mirchel, a maxillofacial surgeon; and his brother Thomas Mirchel, also a maxillofacial surgeon), Dr. Mirchel has always had an interest in dentistry and seeing the huge need in practice, especially in shelter medicine, the desire to further her training continued to grow. With gratitude the stars finally aligned to allow Dr. Mirchel to pursue a residency in
dentistry and maxillofacial surgery with Dr. Eric Van Nice and his amazing team at Animal Dental Services.
