ABSTRACT TEXT: There are a frustratingly large number of threats to the stability and security of a veterinary practice, not the least of which come from cyber criminals seeking to gain access to your records or exploit vulnerabilities to infect your network with ransomware. In the past, a sturdy anti-virus program may have been enough, but threat actors have leveled up their game and so should you. A multi-pronged approach to cyber security is a must for veterinary practices to protect themselves and to even the playing field.  In this presentation, we’ll make clear the types of vulnerabilities that are common to veterinary practices and provide tangible strategies on how to best secure these weak points.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • The different types of threats veterinary practices face today
  • Why signature-based anti-virus solutions are outdated, and how behavior-based Next Gen AV provides an additional layer of protection
  • The ways phishing attempts have become more sophisticated, and ways a blend of technology and training can help protect your practice
  • The importance of secure, managed technologies with proper patching to stay ahead of threats
  • The advent of AI-centric defense strategies to detect and alert suspicious behavior
  • Data continuity, and the importance of recovery time objectives in the event of a disaster
  • Understanding RATs (Remote Access Tools) and how to keep them secure
