Speaker: Dr. Julia E. Miller, DVM, DACVD

Summary: Determining if a pet has a food allergy, atopy, or both can be tricky business! This session will cover how to use history-taking and your dermatologic work-up to point you in the right direction. We will also demystify diet selection, diet trial instructions, and how to evaluate the pet’s response.

  • Session Learning Objectives:
    • Understand how to use effective history taking for allergic patients
    • Describe an effective diet trial including diet selection and owner instructions
    • Create a plan for how to interpret diet trial results

 

Bio: Dr. Julia is an upstate NY native who first pursued her love of singing at Indiana University as a vocal performance major before her love of horses pulled her back to veterinary medicine. She graduated from Cornell University and then completed a large animal rotating internship at the University of Georgia. She worked as a mixed animal GP for several years before returning to Cornell to complete her dermatology residency. After residency, Dr. Julia stayed on at Cornell where she was awarded the Zoetis Distinguished Teacher Award. She is now loving life in the land of bourbon and horses as a staff Dermatologist at the Animal Dermatology Clinic in Louisville KY. Dr. Julia has a special interest in the management of chronic otitis externa, and all things related to large animal skin disease (especially horses). Outside of work, Dr. Julia enjoys her lovable bully dogs, riding horses, and singing whenever possible.
