The Use of MiDOG Next Generation Sequencing in Difficult Skin Cases

Difficult dermatology cases often involve recurrent infections, mixed microbial communities, inconclusive cultures, or patients who do not respond as expected to treatment. In this webinar, Dr. Jeff Tinsley explores how MiDOG next-generation sequencing (NGS) can provide a broader view of the bacteria, fungi, and antimicrobial resistance markers present in clinical skin samples.

Through real-world case examples, Dr. Tinsley will discuss when NGS may be valuable, how to interpret MiDOG results in a clinical context, and how the findings can complement conventional diagnostics and inform more targeted case management. Attendees will gain practical insight into incorporating NGS into the diagnostic workup of complex and difficult-to-resolve skin cases.

Jeff P. Tinsley, DVM, DACVD | Animal Dermatology Clinic

Dr. Jeff Tinsley graduated from vet school at Tuskegee University in 2017. He then completed a Small Animal Rotating Internship in 2018 at the Blue Pearl of San Antonio, Texas. He stayed in San Antonio for a year of general practice, then moved to Louisville, Kentucky for a one year Dermatology Specialty Internship with Animal Dermatology Clinic (ADC). This was followed by a 3 year Derm residency. He earned his board-certification in veterinary dermatology in 2024. He now practices full time in the Bay Area. Outside of vet med he enjoys supporting local restaurants, trying craft beer and crossfit.
